Bio
Grant Peeples calls himself a “LeftNeck”—a tree-hugger who watches NASCAR—and that contradiction captures the heart of his work. A folk singer in the lineage of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and Billy Bragg, Peeples blends sharp social commentary with wit, storytelling, and disarming humor. His concerts move easily between laughter, reflection, and quiet moments of recognition.
His songs range from historical narratives to deeply personal relationship stories, shaped by years on the road and a restless curiosity about the world. From 1995 to 2006, Peeples lived as an expatriate on a small island off Nicaragua’s Miskito Coast, where he installed the island’s first flushing toilet, helped protect sea turtles, and built an eco-resort and dive shop. Returning to the United States, he encountered a culture that felt almost futuristic because of its technological advancement and political upheaval in his absence—an experience that continues to inform his writing.
Peeples has released 14 studio albums, including five produced by acclaimed roots musician Gurf Morlix. A seasoned touring artist, he performs nationwide and is a repeat performer at major festivals across the country including Kerrville Folk Festival, the Woody Guthrie Festival, 30A Songwriters Festival, Moccasin Creek Music Festival, and the Florida Folk Festival. He is also a published poet and author (Mezcalita Press.)
His latest album, Code to Live By (January 2026), earned an A rating from legendary music critic Robert Christgau (Rolling Stone, The Village Voice), who called it “the most explicitly leftist album I’ve come across in far too long.”

A Few Things About Grant Peeples
His shows are a roiling mix of funny stuff and not-funny stuff. He doesn’t do a lot of lo-ooove songs, but when he does, it’s liable to break your heart.
He is credited with eleven studio albums, five of which were produced by Gurf Morlix, iconic Americana/Roots producer for Lucinda Williams, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Mary Gauthier, Robert Earl Keen, Slaid Cleaves and many more. He has published three books of poetry, and broadcast a series of multimedia extended videos made during the pandemic called “Clay Tablets.”
He lived on a small island off the Miskito Coast of Nicaragua for eleven years. There he installed the island’s first flushing toilet, rescued sea turtles, and built an eco-resort and dive shop. When he returned to the US in 2006, he returned to a homeland whose changes bordered on futuristic. Much of what he writes about today is informed by that experience
